Homework:
Your homework for today was to revise your draft of paper two for submission.
Let’s take a few moments to reflect on that draft.
Journal: (Suggested 10 Minutes)
How is this draft an improvement over the last draft? Be specific in your explanations and use the three-step process.
Class Discussion: (Suggested: 5 Minutes)
Group Work:
Journal Assignment: (Suggested: 10 Minutes)
For the past eight weeks, I’ve been arguing that the frames we use to understand stories are frames we can use to understand our own social position.
Today, I want us begin experimenting with this idea in a new way.
Using any four of our class concepts, I would like you to describe the Worlds of Play and Work as they were experienced by someone you knew in High School (not you). No names are needed!
Group Work: (Suggested: 10 Minutes)
First, share your findings. Next, I want you to discuss the RELATIONSHIPS between the worlds of play and work for these people as you understand them.
Continue to use your frames to justify your answers.
Class Discussions: (Suggested: 5-7 Minutes)
Question for Consideration: (Journal or Conference Work)
Just as we have probably been taught that “everyone is entitled to an opinion,” we have also probably been taught that “anyone can escape poverty with hard work and effort.”
Do you think this is true? If so, why – and what are some of the practical factors that may challenge individuals who are raised within impoverished situations?
