Class Eighteen

Potential Presentations:

We will begin class today with presentations by those students who elect to present.

As a way to bring the major ideas we have considered this semester to a close, I want us to work with Kate Chopin’s short story, “The Story of an Hour.” (Suggested: 30 Minutes)

1)      Read and annotate the story for important plot points, cultural references, or details that relate to the American Dream as we have discussed it in class.

2)      When you have finished, go back over the story and your annotations: identify the important details that relate to concepts class, income, and setting that can inform our understanding of the plot points, cultural references or the American Dream as these subjects can be related to Louise Mallard.

3)      Using your notes as a guide, construct a basic argument about “The Untold Lie.”  The argument needs to have a clear Thesis and three pieces of specific evidence that back up that thesis.

Group Discussion: (Suggested: 10 Minutes)

Group Presentation: (Suggested: 10 Minutes)
